Applications

Notch filters are useful in situations where selected frequencies must be attenuated while passing all others. Notch filters can be designed to supply broad or narrow notches. The TNF310 is designed to provide a narrow notch over a broad range of frequencies. The TNF310 covers the entire HF band in five switch selectable bands. The following are ideal applications for the TNF310 notch filters:

  1. Extending dynamic range of spectrum analyzers.

  2. Removing harmonics from signal sources.

  3. Removing spurious signals from transmitters up to 250 Watts.

  4. Use to notch an overloading signal in receivers.

  5. Multicoupler applications.

Although a small unit physically, the TNF310 offers extremely good insertion loss characteristics. The narrow 3 dB bandwidth allows the filter to be used to notch signals in the same band as the desired signal. For example, an overloading signal on 7370 KHz could be notched while receiving a signal on 7000 KHz.

Description

The TNF310 is contained in a nickel-plated brass enclosure. The heavy-duty enclosure provides excellent shielding. Stainless steel hardware and nickel plating prevent corrosion from dissimilar metal action. You can expect these filters to yield many years of trouble-free service, even under field conditions.

Description-cont

Careful circuit design provides low VSWR, assuring that no unwanted notches of significant level, or any other disturbances occur from DC to 110 MHz. This is known as the useable range. The circuits used provide Q balance over each range, thus providing uniform notch depth over the range (22 dB to 24 dB from low to high). The notch bandwidth is >5 KHz, so even an SSB or AM signal will be notched.

Because of the low insertion loss, two or more TNF310's may be installed to simultaneously notch several signals.

The frequency band is selected with a rotary switch. The frequency is selected with a vernier dial, having a 0 to 100 bandspread indicator. A chart, on the reverse side of this page, illustrates performance for each band.

A calibration table is supplied with each unit, indicating the approximate bandspread setting for each frequency.

Ordering

Select the type of connector from the price list and add the letter designator as a suffix. For example, a TNF310 with type "N" connectors is a TNF310N.

Orders may be placed by phone or FAX directly to the factory. The TNF310 is generally available in two weeks.
